Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana 2026: 10 kg Free Rice Per Person, Eligibility, Benefits and FAQs
Read in another language:
If your family has an NFSA or SFSS ration card in Odisha, your monthly ration just got bigger. Under the Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana, every eligible person now gets an extra 5 kg of rice free of cost, on top of the 5 kg they already receive. That makes 10 kg of free rice per person, every month.
There is one more thing to know before you read further. The name “Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana” is used by more than one state. Odisha’s scheme is about rice. Maharashtra’s scheme with the same name is about free LPG cylinders. This guide covers the Odisha scheme in full, and clears up the confusion with the others in a separate section below.
What Is Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana, short name MAPY, is a food security scheme of the Government of Odisha. The state cabinet under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved it for the 2026 to 27 financial year. The Chief Minister then launched it on the occasion of his government’s second anniversary in June 2026.
The idea is simple. People covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) already get 5 kg of rice per person each month. MAPY adds another 5 kg per person, and the state pays for it fully from its own budget.
The Chief Minister’s Office has described the aim in plain words: no family should go hungry, no child should suffer from malnutrition, and no elderly person should face hardship because of a lack of food. The official news item on the launch is available on the Odisha Chief Minister’s website.

How Much Rice Will Your Family Get?
The extra rice is counted per person, not per family. So the bigger your family on the ration card, the more extra rice you receive. Here is a simple example based on the official “5 kg extra per person” rule.
| Family members on ration card | Regular rice (5 kg each) | Extra rice under MAPY (5 kg each) | Total per month |
| 2 | 10 kg | 10 kg | 20 kg |
| 4 | 20 kg | 20 kg | 40 kg |
| 6 | 30 kg | 30 kg | 60 kg |
These are example calculations to help you plan. Your actual quantity depends on the members listed on your ration card and the category of the card. If you hold an Antyodaya (AAY) card, which is allotted by household, check with your ration shop or the local Civil Supplies Officer how the extra quantity is being counted for you.

Benefits of Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana
- 5 kg of additional rice per person every month, free of cost
- The benefit comes over and above the existing NFSA or SFSS entitlement, so nothing is reduced
- It covers both NFSA and SFSS ration card holders
- It lowers monthly food spending for poor and vulnerable households
- It runs through the existing ration shop network, so there is no new system to learn
- The full cost is paid by the Odisha government, not shared with the Centre
Who Is Eligible?
You are covered if all of these apply to you:
- You are a resident of Odisha.
- Your name is on a valid ration card issued under NFSA or SFSS.
- Your household details are correctly entered in the food security database of the state.
There is no separate income test, age limit, or gender condition for this scheme. If you already get ration under NFSA or SFSS, you are the target group.
Documents and Records to Keep Ready
Since there is no new application, you do not need to submit documents to a government office for MAPY. But it is smart to keep these ready when you visit the ration shop:
- Your ration card (physical or digital copy)
- Aadhaar card of the members
- A mobile number linked with your ration card records
- Any proof the Food Supplies department asks for in future notices
Make sure the names and Aadhaar details of all family members are correct on the ration card. Most ration problems come from small mistakes like these.
How to Get the Extra Rice (No Application Needed)
As per the information available so far, the Odisha government has not announced any separate application form for this scheme. Eligible households are expected to receive the extra rice automatically along with their normal monthly ration.
Here is what you should do:
- Check that your ration card is active and all members are listed.
- Visit your usual Fair Price Shop in the monthly distribution window.
- Collect your regular 5 kg per person, and ask for the extra 5 kg under Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana.
- Verify your weight and quantity before you leave the shop.
- Keep your receipt or the SMS you receive.
I could not find an official notice that gives the first month of distribution at the shop level. Please confirm the current schedule with your ration dealer or on the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department website.
What If You Do Not Get the Extra Rice?
If you are an NFSA or SFSS cardholder and the shop gives you only the old quantity, do not just accept it. Try these steps in order:
- Ask the dealer politely why the extra quantity is missing, and check if your card details are updated.
- Call the toll free PDS helpline 1967, which works for ration related complaints.
- Register a complaint on the department’s grievance portal.
- Meet the Civil Supplies Officer of your district. District food offices hold regular grievance hearings, and the officer’s contact details are listed on your district’s official .gov.in website.
You can also raise the matter on the state’s Jana Sunani platform at janasunani.odisha.gov.in.
Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana in Other States: Do Not Get Confused
Many people search this name and land on the wrong state. Here is the difference.
| Scheme | State | What it gives |
| Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana | Odisha | 5 kg extra free rice per person per month for NFSA and SFSS beneficiaries |
| Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana | Maharashtra | 3 free LPG cooking gas cylinders per year for eligible families |
| Annapurna Yojana (central scheme, launched in 2000) | Whole of India | 10 kg free food grains per month for destitute senior citizens who are eligible for old age pension but not receiving it |
The Maharashtra scheme was announced in the state budget for 2024 to 25. It is meant for families who benefit under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, and women beneficiaries of the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. All India Radio reported its announcement in the state’s supplementary budget, which you can read on newsonair.gov.in.
If you live in Maharashtra and you are looking for gas cylinder benefits, this Odisha rice scheme is not the one for you. And if you live in Odisha, you do not need to apply for any LPG scheme to get the extra rice.
Why Odisha Started This Scheme
Rising prices have made it hard for low income families to manage monthly food costs. The Odisha government decided to put more grain in the hands of those who already depend on the ration system. The cabinet approved a monthly spending of about ₹734 crore, which comes to about ₹8,813 crore for the full year. Reports on the cabinet decision say the state will need to lift around 1.64 lakh tonnes of rice every month for the scheme.
By the state’s own figures, over 3.28 crore people are covered. That is nearly 80% of Odisha’s population, making it one of the biggest state funded expansions of the public distribution system in the country.
Beware of Fake Websites and Agents
Whenever a new scheme is launched, fake links and agents appear. Keep these points in mind:
- There is no fee for getting the benefit of Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana. Never pay anyone.
- Do not share your Aadhaar number, OTP, or bank details on any website that promises “Annapurna Yojana registration”.
- Do not trust forwarded messages asking you to fill a form or click a link to “claim your 10 kg rice”.
- Verify every update on a .gov.in website only.
