Vacancy Details

The notice lists a single post, Special Police Officer, with 81 vacancies. It does not split the posts by rank or category, so we are not inventing a breakup. Retired ASIs, Sub-Inspectors and Inspectors all compete for the same 81 seats.

An earlier SPO round was run by the Commissionerate and other police ranges earlier this year. This is a fresh advertisement, so an old application will not count. If you want to compare it with the ranges that are open right now, see the table further down.

Who Can Apply

You need to meet every condition below. Missing even one can get the application rejected.

  • Permanent resident of Odisha.
  • Retired from Odisha Police in the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector, Sub-Inspector or Inspector of Police.
  • Not more than 65 years old on the date the advertisement was published.
  • Able to speak, read and write Odia.
  • Unblemished service record.
  • Never convicted in a criminal case and never given a major departmental punishment during service.
  • No criminal case pending against you.
  • Not more than one living spouse.
  • A “very good” or “good” CCR or PAR for a continuous 60 months before retirement.
  • Government quarter, if one was ever allotted, must have been vacated.

Who Cannot Apply

Retired personnel from the Battalion Cadre, retired CAPF personnel and ex-servicemen cannot appear in this selection test. Serving police personnel are not the target group either, since this is a re-employment scheme for retirees.

Age Limit

The upper limit is 65 years, counted on the date the advertisement came out (1 October 2026). The notice, as reported by the job portals that quote it, mentions no age relaxation. Check the official PDF before assuming any.

SPO Salary and Remuneration

This is the question everyone asks, and the honest answer is that the notice does not give a rupee figure. It says remuneration will be fixed as per the Government of Odisha, Finance Department Memo No. 25744/F dated 01.10.2026.

Some websites quote monthly amounts. We could not trace those numbers to the advertisement, so we are not repeating them. Before you decide, ask the Commissionerate office for the memo or look at the official advertisement page linked at the end of this article.

Selection Process

Selection happens on the test day, in four stages.

  1. Document verification. You bring the originals of everything you attached to the form.
  2. Medical test. A medical examination checks your physical fitness. People with physical deformities are not eligible for appointment.
  3. Physical test. You must cover 5 kilometres on foot within one hour.
  4. Interview. Only those who pass both the medical and physical tests face the Selection Board.

There is no written exam.

The 5 km Walk: What It Really Asks For

Five kilometres in sixty minutes works out to twelve minutes per kilometre, a brisk walking pace. For a retiree who has not walked that distance in a while, it is not as easy as it sounds, especially early in the morning at 7:00 AM with documents and medical checks done first. Start walking a few kilometres daily from now, build up gradually, and speak to your doctor first if you have any heart, knee or blood pressure issue.

The notice also expects candidates to be physically fit and mentally alert for police duty.

Carry the originals on 30 October. Verification is the first stage, and nobody will wait while you go home to fetch a certificate.

How to Apply Offline

  1. Download the advertisement and application proforma from the Odisha Police website, police.odisha.gov.in.
  2. Read the conditions once fully before you start filling the form.
  3. Type the form. Fill every column. Do not leave blanks.
  4. Attach self-attested copies of all documents and the two photographs.
  5. Get two character certificates from two different Group-B Gazetted Officers.
  6. Sign every declaration in the proforma.
  7. Send or hand over the application to the Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Kataka, Bhubaneswar so that it reaches by 22 October 2026, 5:00 PM.

Where to Send the Application

The Commissioner of Police’s office address on the official Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police website is Bidyut Marg, Bhubaneswar, PIN 751001. The office phone listed there is +91-674-2530035 and the email is commissioneratepolice@nic.in. Use the contact page linked below to confirm before you post anything.

The notice says the application must reach the office, so posting it on the last day is a gamble. Our suggestion: send it a week early, or deliver it in person and keep an acknowledgment if the office gives one. If you use post, choose a trackable service.

Test Venue: Confirm Before You Go

Most portals say the selection test is at Reserve Police Ground, Bhubaneswar UPD, opposite Kalinga Stadium. One portal that read both the short newspaper advertisement and the detailed one points out that the two do not word the venue identically, and that the detailed advertisement mentions the Police Commissionerate Headquarters. We could not open the PDF ourselves, so we cannot settle this for you. Read the venue line in the official advertisement, and if it is unclear, call the office number above a day or two before the test.

Mistakes That Can Get Your Application Rejected

  • Getting both character certificates from the same officer. The notice asks for two different Group-B Gazetted Officers.
  • Leaving columns empty. Incomplete applications are rejected.
  • Forgetting to sign the declarations.
  • Submitting photocopies that are not self-attested.
  • Sending the form on 22 October and hoping it arrives the same day.
  • Applying even though you retired from the Battalion Cadre or CAPF. That route is closed.
  • Not having service records ready. The CCR or PAR condition covers your last 60 months before retirement, so request copies early.
  • Not vacating an old government quarter.

How This Differs From Other Odisha SPO Notices

Several police offices in Odisha are hiring SPOs at the same time, each with its own last date and test date. Do not mix them up.
