Odisha Seva First Innovation Challenge (OSFIC) 2026: Dates, Tracks, Registration and Prizes
Read in another language:
The Odisha Seva First Innovation Challenge (OSFIC) is a statewide contest run by Startup Odisha and the MSME Department of the Government of Odisha. It asks students, young entrepreneurs, farmers, artisans and local communities to bring practical solutions to real public problems. The portal went live on 30 September 2026, and the registration countdown on the official site points to 20 October 2026 as the closing date.
If you are thinking of joining, the main thing is timing. The district outreach stage is already running, so it is better to register early and finish your solution upload without rushing. This guide explains who can take part, how the portal works, what you need to submit and where people usually get stuck.

What Is the Odisha Seva First Innovation Challenge?
OSFIC is built around one idea: good solutions do not only come from research labs. A farmer who has fixed an irrigation headache, a student who has built a low-cost sensor or a self-help group that has found a better way to process produce can all enter.
The 21 challenge themes come from government schemes, industry needs and everyday citizen problems. Teams pick a theme, choose a problem statement under it, and then submit a solution. Selected ideas get mentoring, and the strongest ones move towards incubation support and a state-level grand finale in Bhubaneswar.
Important Dates and the OSFIC Last Date
The official site describes the challenge as a nine-stage journey. When this article was checked, Stage 3, District-Level Outreach, was marked as live and ran from 30 September to 15 October 2026. Its purpose is to reach schools and colleges through district institutions.
The registration window is the part that matters most for you right now. The portal counter shows registration closing on 20 October 2026. Dates for later stages such as evaluation and the grand finale were not visible on the public pages at the time of writing, so check the Key Dates section on the portal before you plan around them.
Who Can Participate in OSFIC?
The contest is split into three participation tracks. You choose one track per registration, and the fields you fill in later depend on that choice.
| Track | Odia name on the portal | Who it is meant for |
|---|---|---|
| Promising Student Innovator | Chhatra Naba Srujana Pratibha | School students (Classes 9 to 12, including Tinkering Lab and PM SHRI schools), college and university students, ITI and polytechnic students, and scholars from state or central institutes |
| Promising Startups or Youth Innovators | Yuva NabaSrujana Pratibha | Startups and MSMEs, skilled and semi-skilled youth, job seekers, artisans and progressive farmers |
| Promising Grassroots Innovators and Entrepreneurs | Trunamoola NabaSrujana Pratibha | Individuals without an institutional tag, women’s Self-Help Groups, Farmer Producer Organisations, NCC, NSS and NYKS units, senior citizens and local social organisations |
Women entrepreneurs and self-help group members often ask how this fits with other state welfare schemes. OSFIC is a competition for ideas and prototypes, not a cash benefit scheme. If you are looking at financial support programmes for women instead, our guide on Subhadra Yojana covers that separately.
Is OSFIC Open to People Outside Odisha?
This is a gap in most news coverage, so it is worth being direct. The registration form asks you to select an Odisha district, and the whole campaign is framed around Odisha’s 30 districts. In practice it looks designed for participants based in Odisha. If you live elsewhere in India and still want to apply, write to the helpdesk first and get written confirmation, because the public pages do not clearly say that outside entries are accepted.
The 21 Themes and Problem Statements
Every team must pick one innovation theme. News reports and the portal mention areas such as:
- Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry
- Tribal and Rural Development
- Climate Change and Sustainability
- Waste Management
- Water and Sanitation
- Renewable Energy
- Education and Skill Development
- Healthcare and MSME support
- Disaster Management
- Drone technology
The portal’s Problem Statements page lists the full set of 21 themes, and inside the team portal each theme has its own set of problem statements with a code, the organisation that raised it and a detailed description. Read the statement fully before you commit, because your solution will be judged against that specific problem and not against a general topic.
Prizes, Incubation and Recognition
Here is what has been publicly confirmed so far:
- Cash awards are planned for the state-level grand finale, with one promising innovator category for each of the three tracks.
- Incubation access is promised for the top 100 ideas and prototypes through affiliated incubation centres.
- A compendium of the top 20 ideas is planned, so that investors and partners can see them.
- Mentorship is offered to participants during the competition.
- National exposure is possible for top performers who may represent Odisha on larger platforms.
One honest note: the exact cash amounts have not been published on the pages that were publicly readable. Treat any website that quotes a specific prize figure with caution until it appears on the official portal.
Startup Odisha also signed MoUs with AIIMS Bhubaneswar, the World Skill Centre and ASSOCHAM at the launch, and one-time capital grants were given to selected incubators. That tells you the programme has institutional backing beyond the contest itself.
How to Register for OSFIC 2026 Step by Step
The official user manual (version 1.5) describes a guided four-step form. Here is the flow in plain language.
- Open the portal. Go to the official OSFIC registration page and use the Registration button at the top right.
- Choose your track. Read the eligibility text on each card and select the one that fits you. There is a Guidelines button if you want the rules first.
- Fill in your profile. Students enter their academic level and institution. Startups and youth innovators enter a startup recognition number (a DPIIT or state certificate number) and entity name. Everyone selects a district and a city, gram panchayat or village.
- Set up your team. Give your team a unique name, choose individual entry or a team of up to five, select your innovation theme and, if you have one, add a mentor’s name. A mentor is optional, but the name is printed on the team certificate.
- Add team leader details. Enter the leader’s name exactly as it appears on the student or Aadhaar card, along with gender, social category, a 10-digit mobile number and an email address. The email is verified with an OTP, so use one you can open right now.
- Review and submit. Check every section, tick the declaration, solve the small CAPTCHA sum and press Submit Application.
- Save your confirmation. You will see an Official Registration Number, which also works as your username. Copy it, download the confirmation slip and look for the password in your email.
The district you pick decides the code in your registration number, so choose it carefully.
What to Keep Ready Before You Start
Form data is not saved if you leave the page, so gather these details first:
- Your track and, for students, your school or college name (college entries may also ask for AISHE codes and the type of institute)
- Startup recognition number if you are applying as a startup
- District and village or city
- Team name, team size and chosen theme
- Full names, gender and social category for every member
- A working email and mobile number for the leader that have not been used by any other team
- Semester and branch for college and university leaders
Logging In and Submitting Your Solution
After registration, use the Log In to Team Portal button with your registration number (or any member’s email) and the emailed password. If a pop-up asks for your theme, pick one and submit.
Inside the team portal you will find a dashboard, a problem statements page and a submission page. The solution form asks for:
| Item | Required? | Format and limit |
|---|---|---|
| Description of your solution | Yes | Text |
| Pitch deck or abstract and approach document | Yes | PPT, PPTX or PDF, up to 5 MB |
| Supporting document | No | PDF, up to 5 MB |
| Image of your solution | No | JPG or PNG, up to 5 MB |
| Video link | No | URL |
| Repository link | No | URL |
Use Save as Draft until your document is truly final. The manual does not say whether a solution can be edited after the final Submit, so do not assume you can fix it later.
OSFIC vs the National SFIC vs OSIC: Do Not Mix Them Up
Searches for this contest often bring up similar names, and that confuses a lot of readers.
| Name | Run by | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| OSFIC (this article) | Startup Odisha, MSME Department, Government of Odisha | Odisha statewide, three tracks, 21 themes |
| Seva First Innovation Challenge (SFIC) | Ministry of Education with AICTE and UGC | National challenge with regional rollouts. The south zone was launched at IISc Bengaluru on 25 September 2026 and registration there runs to 24 October |
| Odisha School Innovation Challenge (OSIC) | AIC-NITF with Startup Odisha and Atal Innovation Mission | School students in Odisha only, with its own portal |
Even though the OSFIC registration page carries the heading “National Innovation Challenge Registration”, the portal presents OSFIC as the Odisha chapter and the contest is run by the state. Registering for one of these does not register you for the others. For other central programmes that may interest you, browse our Central Govt Schemes section.
Tips for a Stronger Submission
- Start with the problem, not the gadget. Judges are reading for real public benefit. Say who suffers from the problem today and how your idea changes their day.
- Keep the abstract tight. A short, clear document under the 5 MB limit is easier to review than a long one packed with screenshots.
- Show proof. A photo of a working prototype, a field test result or a short demo video adds weight.
- Name the cost. Mention what it would cost to build and run, and who would pay.
- Use your mentor. A teacher or local expert can sharpen your pitch, and their name appears on your team certificate.
- Pick a theme you know. Villagers who know irrigation well should not force a drone idea just because it sounds modern.
If you are a student who also needs funding for studies while you build your project, our post on the Odisha Scholarship Portal 2026-27 explains how to apply and avoid common mistakes. More study-related updates are in the Education and Scholarships category.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Registering twice. Duplicate emails or mobile numbers across teams are rejected, and each person can belong to only one team.
- Closing the browser before pressing Submit Application.
- Using an email address you cannot open, so the OTP and password never reach you.
- Entering a name that does not match your ID card.
- Choosing a theme that does not match the problem statement you plan to solve.
- Waiting until the final day, when the portal may slow down.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the last date for OSFIC registration?
The official portal showed a countdown to 20 October 2026 when it was checked on 19 October 2026. Dates can be revised, so confirm on the portal.
Can I join OSFIC alone?
Yes. The official manual allows one participant or a team of up to five. If the on-screen guidelines mention a minimum of two members, the manual says to follow the manual, because that text was being updated.
Is there a registration fee?
The registration steps in the official manual contain no payment step. Never pay an agent or a website to register you.
Is OSFIC the same as OFSIC?
Yes. Some pages on the official site use the spelling OFSIC as an alternate form of the same name, so both terms refer to the same challenge.
Can I change my theme after choosing it?
The manual does not say. Contact the helpdesk before you submit if you think you chose the wrong one.
How do I log in after registering?
Use your Official Registration Number or any registered member email, together with the password sent to your inbox, on the team login page.
Do all three tracks submit the same solution form?
The solution form shown in the manual is the same, with a description and a mandatory pitch deck or abstract. Only the profile details differ by track.
Are the cash prize amounts announced?
Not on the public pages checked for this article. Wait for the official portal or Startup Odisha channels to publish them.
