Odisha Scholarship Portal 2026-27 How to Apply, Check Status and Avoid Common Mistakes

Odisha Scholarship Portal 2026-27: How to Apply, Check Status and Avoid Common Mistakes

If you are a student in Odisha, or an Odisha student studying in another state, there is one website you need to know: the Odisha Scholarship Portal at scholarship.odisha.gov.in. Almost every state scholarship, from Pre Matric to PG Merit, is applied for here. You register once, choose your scheme, upload your documents and track the payment from the same account.

This guide explains the portal in plain language. You will find the list of schemes, who can apply, the documents you need, the step by step process, what the new OTR rule means, and what to do when your status gets stuck.

Check before you apply: Last dates on this portal change often, and extensions are common. Always confirm the date for your scheme on the official portal before you rely on any website, including this one.

What Is the Odisha Scholarship Portal?

The Odisha State Scholarship Portal is the official single window of the Government of Odisha for student scholarships. It was launched on 28 October 2020 so that students would not have to fill separate forms for separate departments.

Schemes from several departments now sit on one platform. These include the ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department, the Higher Education Department, the School & Mass Education Department, the Skill Development & Technical Education Department, the Labour & ESI Department and the Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Department.

What this means for you in practice:

  • One login for all schemes
  • Aadhaar based registration
  • Online verification by your institute
  • Scholarship money sent to your bank account through DBT
  • Status tracking without visiting any office

The portal also connects with other government systems such as SAMS, e-District and the Board of Secondary Education records, which helps check your caste, income and academic details automatically. If you use SAMS for college admission, keep your SAMS Odisha student login details safe, because your academic record can be matched with your scholarship form.

Who Can Apply?

Eligibility is different for every scheme, so the scheme page is always the final word. Still, most schemes share a few basic rules:

  • You must be a permanent resident of Odisha
  • You must be studying in a recognised school, college or institute
  • Your family income must be within the limit set for that scheme
  • You must attend classes regularly
  • For merit schemes, your marks in the last exam matter

For the Post Matric Scholarship, students from ST, SC, OBC/SEBC and EBC categories can apply if they are studying after Class 10. That includes Class 11 and 12, ITI, diploma, degree, postgraduate and professional courses. Reported eligibility notes for this scheme include a family income limit of ₹2,50,000 per year and a minimum of 50% marks in the last qualifying exam for OBC/SEBC/EBC students. Income limits can differ by category and by year, so read the current notice on the portal.

Students who study outside Odisha but are permanent residents of the state can also apply through the same portal.

New Rule: OTR Is Required for Post Matric

This is the point many students miss.

Eligible ST, SC, OBC/SEBC and EBC students applying for Post Matric must first create an OTR (One Time Registration) on the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. You then enter that OTR number on the Odisha portal when it asks for it.

The order is simple:

  1. Create OTR on scholarships.gov.in
  2. Keep the OTR number safe
  3. Apply on scholarship.odisha.gov.in

If you skip the first step, you will get stuck at the form. The Odisha portal has a step by step OTR guide in PDF, so download it if you are doing this for the first time.

Which Scheme Fits You?

Class 9 and 10 students. Look at Pre Matric. If you are searching for a government scholarship for 10th class students, this is the first scheme to check, along with any merit based option your school informs you about.

Class 11 and 12 students. Post Matric covers you if you belong to a eligible category. Junior Merit and Pathani Samanta Mathematics Talent are also for Class 11 to 12. Many students search for a

scholarship for 12th students by government 2026, and these three are

the ones to compare.

If you are waiting for the free laptop benefit, check the Odisha Free Laptop Distribution List to see the latest merit list and beneficiary names.

Degree and PG students. Post Matric, U.G. Merit, P.G. Merit, Technical and Professional, and Gopabandhu Sikhya Sahayata Yojana are the main options. The Gopabandhu Sikhya Sahayata Yojana is listed as open to applicants even if they are availing other department schemes, but always read the scheme note first.

Children of construction workers. Under the labour welfare scholarship route, the Nirman Shramik Kalyan Yojana gives education assistance to eligible beneficiary families. The worker should be registered with the Labour department.

Girl students in technical courses. Check Sudakshya for Girl Child.

Students with disability. Check Banishree, and keep your disability certificate ready.

Last Dates for 2026-27

Last dates are published scheme wise. These are the dates being reported for the current cycle. Please treat them as a guide and confirm on the portal, especially the Post Matric date, because it is very close and extensions have happened before.

SchemeReported last date
Post Matric Scholarship29 September 2026 (extension to 30 September has been reported)
Pre Matric Scholarship9 October 2026
Junior Merit and Pathani Samanta (Class 11 to 12)25 October 2026
Nirman Shramik Kalyan Yojana31 October 2026

Dates for schemes like e-Medhabruti UG and PG Merit and Gopabandhu Sikhya Sahayata Yojana are usually announced separately on the portal. Do not wait for the final day. Servers slow down in the last two days every year.

Documents Required

Scan everything before you open the form. Files should be clear and readable.

  • Aadhaar number
  • Recent passport size photograph
  • Caste certificate (for SC, ST, OBC/SEBC, EBC)
  • Income certificate
  • Residence certificate
  • Disability certificate, if applicable
  • Bank passbook first page showing your name, account number and IFSC
  • Matriculation certificate and the marksheet of your last exam
  • OTR number, for Post Matric

Income, caste and residence certificates are issued through the state e-District service. If you are applying for the first time and do not have them yet, start there, because certificates can take days.

A small tip on bank accounts: your account must be active and linked with Aadhaar for DBT. Students who have faced payment failure often had an inactive account or a seeding problem. Odisha women beneficiaries face the same thing with the Subhadra Yojana NPCI rejection, and the fix is similar: visit your bank and get Aadhaar seeding checked.

You can use the basic eligibility check on the portal before you fill the full form. It saves time if you are not sure which scheme suits you.

Fresh or renewal? Students in their first year of a course apply as Fresh. Students continuing in the second year or later apply as Renewal.

How to Check Odisha Scholarship Status

Use the official Know Your Status page: scholarship.odisha.gov.in/website/know-your-status. You can also log in to your account and open your application.

The sanctioned student list can be seen from the scholarship list section of the portal.

What the common stages usually mean:

  • Submitted: Your form has been sent, but your institute has not acted yet
  • Forwarded to institute: Waiting for verification by your college or school
  • Verified or recommended: Passed the institute stage and moved to the department
  • Sanctioned: Approved, and money is expected in the bank
  • Rejected or returned: Something is wrong. Read the remark and correct it if the portal allows

If your form has been sitting at the institute stage for a long time, meet the scholarship nodal officer at your college. Most delays happen at this stage, not because of the portal.
