JEE Main 2027 Eligibility Criteria
Before completing the application form, candidates should check whether they meet NTA’s eligibility requirements.
1. Age Limit
There is no upper age limit for appearing in JEE Main 2027. Candidates can apply irrespective of their age, provided they meet the qualifying examination conditions.
However, individual institutions may have separate age-related admission requirements.
2. Class 12 Passing Year
Candidates must meet one of the following conditions:
- Passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination in 2025.
- Passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination in 2026.
- Appearing in Class 12 or an equivalent examination in 2027.
Candidates who passed their qualifying examination in 2024 or earlier are not eligible for JEE Main 2027.
The first year in which a candidate passed Class 12 is considered the qualifying passing year. Improvement examinations do not change the original passing year.
3. Qualifying Examination
NTA accepts Class 12 and equivalent qualifications from recognised boards and institutions. These include CBSE, CISCE, recognised state boards, NIOS (subject to its conditions), and other recognised equivalent examinations.
A three-year diploma recognised by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education is also included in the qualifying examination list.
4. Subject Requirements for Admission
Candidates should understand the difference between eligibility to appear in JEE Main and eligibility for admission to a particular course.
NTA’s examination eligibility is based on the qualifying examination and passing year. However, institutions may prescribe specific subject combinations for B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning admissions.
Therefore, candidates should check the admission requirements of their preferred institutions separately rather than assuming that qualifying for JEE Main automatically guarantees admission.
