RRB Station Master CEN 08/2026: 1,265 Posts, Eligibility, Salary and Apply Online
Read in another language:
The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have opened applications for 1,265 Station Master posts under Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 08/2026. Graduates from recognised universities can apply online from 27 October to 25 November 2026.
This recruitment brings an important change to the Railway selection process. Station Master posts now have a separate notification instead of being included in the regular NTPC Graduate recruitment. Candidates will appear for one Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by a Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), Document Verification and Medical Examination.
There is also an important correction to the vacancy figure. The original notification summary mentioned 1,215 posts, but Corrigendum No. 1 dated 27 October 2026 corrected the total to 1,265.
Here is a detailed guide to the RRB Station Master Recruitment 2026, including vacancy distribution, age limit, educational qualification, application fee, salary, syllabus and selection procedure.

What Is New in RRB Station Master Recruitment 2026?
One of the biggest changes in the 2026 recruitment cycle is the introduction of a separate notification for Station Master posts.
Previously, Station Master recruitment was conducted under the RRB NTPC Graduate-level examination. Candidates had to clear CBT 1, CBT 2 and CBAT before the remaining selection stages.
Under CEN 08/2026, the Railway Recruitment Boards have introduced a single-stage CBT followed by CBAT.
| Particulars | Earlier NTPC Recruitment | Station Master CEN 08/2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Notification | NTPC Graduate CEN | Separate CEN |
| Written Examination | CBT 1 and CBT 2 | Single CBT |
| CBT Duration | 90 minutes per CBT | 120 minutes |
| General Awareness | Included | No separate section |
| Basic Science | Not a separate section | Included |
| Data Analysis | Not a separate section | Included |
| English Reading Comprehension | Not a separate section | Included |
| Aptitude Test | CBAT | CBAT |
| Final Merit | 70% CBT 2 + 30% CBAT | 70% CBT + 30% CBAT |
The new examination gives more importance to mathematics, basic science, data interpretation and reasoning.
Candidates preparing from older RRB NTPC study materials should therefore check the revised syllabus before planning their preparation.
RRB Station Master Vacancy 2026: 1,265 Posts
There are 1,265 Station Master vacancies across 21 Railway Recruitment Boards.
The first notification summary mentioned 1,215 vacancies. However, the RRB-wise distribution in Annexure-B totalled 1,265. Railway Recruitment Boards subsequently issued Corrigendum No. 1 on 27 October 2026 to correct the figure.
Candidates should use 1,265 as the revised total vacancy count.

Ex-Servicemen vacancies are included within the overall category-wise vacancy figures. They should not be added again to the total.

All vacancies are provisional and may change according to Railway Administration requirements.
RRB-Wise Station Master Vacancy 2026
Candidates can select only one RRB while submitting their application. Therefore, checking the available vacancies before choosing a board is important.

For Odisha candidates: RRB Bhubaneswar has 23 Station Master vacancies under East Coast Railway.
The detailed category-wise and Railway Zone-wise distribution is available in Annexure-B of CEN 08/2026.
How to Choose the Right RRB
A board with more vacancies does not automatically offer an easier chance of selection. The number of applicants and category-wise competition also matter.
Before submitting your form, consider these points:
- You can apply to only one RRB.
- The selected RRB cannot be changed during the correction window.
- Railway Zone preferences are considered according to merit, medical fitness and available vacancies.
- The notification states that a transfer request to another Railway will not be registered until the newly appointed employee completes at least 5 to 10 years of service.
- Multiple applications can result in rejection and debarment from future RRB and RRC examinations.
Choose your RRB after checking the vacancy distribution and the likely location of your posting.

RRB Station Master Selection Process 2026
The selection process consists of four main stages.
| Stage | Selection Method |
|---|---|
| Stage 1 | Computer Based Test (CBT) |
| Stage 2 | Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) |
| Stage 3 | Document Verification |
| Stage 4 | Medical Examination |
Stage 1: Computer Based Test
The CBT is the first examination stage. It contains 100 questions for 100 marks, with a total duration of 120 minutes.
Candidates are shortlisted for the CBAT according to their CBT performance and the prescribed RRB-wise vacancy ratio.
Stage 2: Computer Based Aptitude Test
Candidates shortlisted from the CBT must appear for the CBAT.
The test evaluates the aptitude required for Station Master duties.
Candidates must obtain a minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery. This requirement applies equally to all categories.
There is no negative marking in the CBAT.
Stage 3: Document Verification
Candidates who qualify for the CBAT are considered for Document Verification based on the combined merit.
The shortlisting ratio for DV and Medical Examination is approximately 1:1 of the RRB-wise vacancies.
Candidates must produce original certificates to support their educational qualification, age, category and other claims.
Stage 4: Medical Examination
Candidates must pass the A-2 medical examination.
The Railway Administration checks the prescribed eyesight and other medical requirements before appointment.
RRB Station Master Exam Pattern 2026
The new CBT pattern is different from the previous NTPC Graduate examination.
The examination has 100 questions, carries 100 marks and lasts 120 minutes.
| Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Science and Mathematics | 30 | 30 |
| Data Analysis and Interpretation | 30 | 30 |
| Logical Capability | 20 | 20 |
| Mental Reasoning | 20 | 20 |
| Total | 100 | 100 |
The 60-mark Basic Science, Mathematical and Analytical Capability section covers Basic Science and Mathematics together with Data Analysis and Interpretation.
Negative Marking
There is negative marking in the CBT.
One-third of the marks allotted to a question are deducted for every incorrect answer.
For example, an incorrect answer to a one-mark question results in a deduction of approximately 0.33 marks.
Candidates should avoid random guessing and focus on accuracy.
If the examination is conducted in multiple shifts, RRBs will normalise the marks.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
Candidates must obtain the following minimum qualifying percentages:
| Category | Minimum Qualifying Marks |
|---|---|
| UR | 40% |
| EWS | 40% |
| OBC-NCL | 30% |
| SC | 30% |
| ST | 25% |
These are minimum qualifying marks, not guaranteed selection cut-offs. Actual shortlisting depends on merit, category and RRB-wise vacancies.
RRB Station Master CBAT 2026: Important Rules
The Computer Based Aptitude Test is an important part of the Station Master selection process.
Candidates should understand the following rules:
- CBAT is conducted after the CBT.
- Shortlisting is generally up to eight times the RRB-wise vacancies.
- The test is conducted in English and Hindi.
- There is no negative marking in the CBAT.
- Candidates must score a T-score of at least 42 in every test battery.
- There is no category-based relaxation in the minimum T-score.
- Candidates must qualify in every required battery.
- The CBAT contributes 30% to the final merit calculation.
Candidates who fail to qualify in even one required test battery cannot be considered for the final merit list.
Final Merit Calculation
The final merit is prepared using the following weightage:
| Examination | Weightage |
|---|---|
| CBT | 70% |
| CBAT | 30% |
| Total | 100% |
Only candidates who qualify in the CBAT are considered for the combined merit.
